Health and Wellness
Part of our mission is to bring health issues to the UConn community's attention. Each week, MHS highlights a health and/or wellness topic that we would like to inform our members about. Often times, we will fundraise for one of the highlighted causes, and many of our awareness topics coincide with the national awareness week recognized and celebrated by many organizations and people across the country and around the world. We are always looking to expand our perspective and welcome anyone interested in shedding light on a new topic. Below you can find a few of our past topics. Click on the headings to see the full presentation.
Awareness Events
We try to engage our members in gaining perspective on health issues in our local community by putting on events such as our Health Fair, where we spread facts about individual and community health, and Hunger Banquet, an event where we place participants in certain socioeconomic statuses and give them meals corresponding to their income levels. Often times we will also ask prolific speakers to come and discuss the road to medical school, the importance of humanitarian work, and the paths that have led to their successful careers.
HUNGER BANQUET
Our annual awareness event brings the plight of hunger that millions suffer around the world to Storrs, CT. Join us for a night of perspective and compassion. Brought to you in collaboration with Oxfam America.
Our event was on:
Monday, November 14th

Lower Class citizens are assigned to sit on the ground and eat rice and dirty water (tea).

The Upper Class dines at a table with a full dinner and nice silverware (including some drinks!)

Another image of the Lower Class. There are many more people who cannot afford adequate nutrition than those who can afford good meals.

Holding a Master's in Public Health, Dr. Gregorio teaches at the UConn School of Medicine and hopes to encourage future physicians to consider the social determinants of health and the impact of public health.

Our first ever Health Fair kicked off the 2015 school semester with inflatables, a dunk tank, and trivia to bring awareness about individual and community health.

Dr. Zeff is the assistant Dean at the UConn School of Medicine, who came to give MHS a comprehensive overview of the medical school application process and to answer questions from students.
